When do you know when to re pot a plant....my peace lily has been in the same pot almost a year and how do you

Your plant will let you know when it needs a larger home=not thriving but just surviving! A Peace Lily does NOT grow at a rate that would need to be re-potted every two months, in doing so would be too much of a shock to the plant. When re-potting: whatever size pot the plant is in now go to a pot 2 inches larger ONLY! Too large of a pot will force the majority of plant energy to go to the roots only. You want a 50/50 balance of growth between both the roots and the foilage. In the wintertime you want to back off of the plant food (fertilizer) so the plant may have a resting period, seeing that you have a blooming type of plant.

As the previous poster said, check the see if is rootbound. You may even see roots growing out the drainage holes on the bottom of the pot. If it is rootbound, buy some good potting soil and replant it in the next sized pot. Don%26#039;t go from a tiny pot to a huge one. If it doesn%26#039;t need repotted, you should feed it house plant food as often as recommended on the package. A plant in old worn out soil has used up the nutrients in the soil and they need to be replenished.
Reply:you know if the plant is getting too big for the pot , or you gently tap the plant out of the pot and check the roots.

If they are starting to grow in a circle around the pot , it needs to go in a bigger pot. Some plants you can trim the roots back and it will still live , but wont grow as much .
Reply:Every two months
